Where to even begin…

Firstly, this wedding was awesome because it was my first time shooting as a guest-ographer (which is a word that Jess made up especially for me :)

This beautiful day was a celebration of note - special friends and family all gathered together to celebrate the union of two souls that are hopelessly in love with one another.

Since I’ve known Jess, most of what she speaks about is horses and farm life, so it was only fitting that these two tied the knot in a horse paddock on the Mauritzfontein Stud Farm (which is managed by Jess’s dad). When I arrived on the morning of the wedding, I didn’t even have to ask where the bride was - I could hear her giggling already. I told Jess that I’ve never had a bride that laughed and cried simultaneously as much as she did, but it was just such a beautifully emotional day.

I think the best way to describe Alex on the morning of their wedding would be ‘as cool as a cucumber’, and he definitely takes a ranking near the top as one of the most stylish grooms I’ve ever photographed. Their entire wedding day was so refreshingly unconventional, and so uniquely THEM.

One thing that made capturing this day a bit different and interesting for me, is that the couple asked that they please don’t want to do any posed and pretentious photos for their couples session, so I had the opportunity to capture them in genuine moments, laughing a fooling around, just relishing every moment of their wedding day.

The entire event, from coordination to decor and styling, was all done by the extremely talented Otto de Jager from ODJ Events. It was such a pleasure to capture a fresh look and loved the unique style that he used to bring together everything that is ‘Alex & Jess’. The reception took place under nothing but the stars. Tables were set up in between the stables, which served as the bar and catering stations for the evening. My favourite station of course was the self-help soft serve machine:)

One of the highlights of the day included the bride arriving in a donkey-drawn cart. And not just any donkey - little Bo was a rescue case that Jess took on. He now enjoys regular bubble baths, thorough grooming sessions, and plenty of carrots from Jess. And to add even more cuteness to the equation, Milkshake (who is a miniature horse) featured as a flower girl:)

This entire day was just so much fun to capture and be a part of. Alex and Jess, I pray that your fairytale love only grows stronger and stronger as you live out your happily ever after ♡
